Operations Manager LWN

Una qualified as a Registered General Nurse in London in 1988 and spent many years in working in  District Nursing and School Nursing in the London area. After achieving American Registered Nurse licence status, Una returned to acute care in preparation for emigration securing a post working in Intensive Care, embracing the challenge of learning new skills and extending her knowledge despite being an extremely experienced nurse. Unfortunately, life threw a curved ball and plans changed and Una made the decision to take early retirement, continuing her voluntary work managing support groups; one for parents of children with visual impairment and another for parents of young persons with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome.

When former nurses were approached to return to practice Una responded to the appeal to offer her services to the vaccination programme using her previous knowledge and skills as an experienced vaccinator. Una also joined Smart Health Solutions, initially as s Covid-19 Support Nurse and then as a Support Lead during the height of the pandemic and was part of the team delivering the Health Protection and Care Champions Network. 2021 also saw Una joining the Nurses and AHPs Working Party for the British and Irish Hypertensive Society Scientific Conference and is excited to now be involved with the Community Nurse Ambassador Network, Future Learning Disabilities Network, Transforming Perceptions of Midwifery Initiative.

Una loves the diversity that nursing brings with the opportunity to change direction no matter what your age or experience, to continually broaden knowledge and skills. Her passion for promoting teaching led to Una becoming the Communications and Engagement Lead for Learn With Nurses and Una is now Operations Manager for both Smart Health Solutions and Learn With Nurses.

Education is a priority for Una and she is currently undertaking a Master of Science Degree in Medical and Healthcare Education, having achieved the PG Cert and PG Dip.
