This webinar is a unique opportunity to explore how advertising and its impact play a role in oral health disparities and how we can combat this.
LWN founder and director Michaela Nuttall RGN MSc is joined by JILL ILIFFE RN, RM, Executive Secretary; Commonwealth Nurses and Midwifery Federation for an LWN In Conversation webinar discussing:
- The impact of inequalities on oral health – why oral health outcomes are unequal across populations.
- The impact of advertising on oral health – advertising of food, beverages, and oral hygiene products.
- Practical solutions to level the playing field and a role for nurses and midwives.
This 40-minute live webinar will be recorded and made available on demand.
Nurses and midwives are in a unique position to raise awareness about the importance of oral health and provide oral health education to individuals, families and communities. Implementing preventive measures early will alleviate individual pain, discomfort and disfigurement and reduce the economic burden of oral diseases on individuals and the health system.

Michaela Nuttall RGN MSc
Cardiovascular Nurse
Michaela is a cardiovascular nurse specialist with a unique and varied experience across the NHS and beyond. She developed her passion from prevention over 25 years ago and has worked within it ever since. In 2016 she left public health after working in the field for 16 years and now focuses on 3 main areas, as a Founder of LWN, Associate in Nursing for C3 Collaborating for Health and Director at Smart Health Solutions.
She is the Chair of the Health Care Committee of Heart UK and an invited member of both the Nurses and The Guidelines and Information working party of the British Hypertension Society, elected member of the Association of Cardiovascular Nurses and Allied Health Professional Education working party, on a variety of editorial boards and the Global Cardiovascular Nursing Leadership Forum. Being a Trustee at PoTS UK keeps her firmly rooted in the challenges patients face in living with life-altering conditions.
JILL ILIFFE RN RM
Executive Secretary, Commonwealth Nurses and Midwifery Federation
Registered nurse and registered midwife from Australia. Extensive clinical career in remote areas, community health, and women’s health. Involved in establishing nurse practitioner role in Australia. Extensive involvement in legislation, regulation and policy review and development related to nursing, midwifery and health at state and national level in Australia. National Secretary of Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation for nine years. Executive Secretary of Commonwealth Nurses and Midwives Federation past 12 years. Worked with nursing and midwifery leaders in countries to review legislation; develop standards of education and practice; continuing professional development frameworks, and scopes of practice. Worked with three countries to write new mental health legislation. Strong focus on achieving practical and sustainable outcomes.
